Fractal Architecture
By Simon Salamanca

About

Colombia and Sierra Leone share climatic similarities in their tropical monsoon and savannah zones. Both face challenges shaped by historical, socio-economic, and geographical factors, leading to a need for resilient, sustainable housing. This design draws on African fractals, creating adaptive, clustered structures that support communities in these regions.

Project Insights

Fractals Plan

The design embraces African fractals, using morphing clusters to create adaptable living spaces. These interconnected units are arranged in fractal patterns, ensuring flexibility, efficient use of space, and a cohesive, natural flow within the community layout.

Community Distribution

The housing is distributed in clusters, promoting social interaction and a sense of belonging. This arrangement mirrors the cultural and environmental contexts of both regions, encouraging communal living while addressing the urgent need for affordable and sustainable housing.

Technical Details

The technical drawings illustrate the efficient layout of the fractal-based design, with specific attention to water management, natural cooling, and the use of local materials. These drawings detail how the housing units can adapt to the landscape and environmental conditions, ensuring both functionality and sustainability.
